Friday Fives ... Mobile Ordering at Walt Disney World

As regular blog-readers, you know that we at Beyond Imagination Vacations are all about maximizing our time when vacationing at Walt Disney World Resort - whether it’s taking advantage of special events with limited attendance to ride our favorite attractions without long wait times again, again and again OR booking character meals because you’ve got to eat, so why not meet characters at the same time. Today, we’re talking about Mobile Ordering, a FREE service available to ALL Walt Disney World Resort guests that minimizes the time you spend in line to order food, thereby maximizing your fun time.

What do you need to participate in Mobile Ordering? You need to be at Walt Disney World Resort, have a My Disney Experience account with the My Disney Experience app on your mobile phone and be hungry! It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3 … 4, 5.

My Disney Experience
Mobile Ordering is the perfect name for Disney’s service - you’re literally placing a food order remotely from your mobile device. Because you’re not ordering at a restaurant counter, you need the My Disney Experience app on the phone you take to the parks. As we’ve discussed before, you’ll be utilizing the app throughout your day to check attraction wait times, find the nearest restroom, and now, you’ll be ordering food too!

Participating Locations
Mobile ordering is available at more than 20 participating locations throughout Walt Disney World Resort. You can only use mobile ordering at quick-service restaurants and snack kiosks; don’t try to use it at a table-service establishment (you wouldn’t want to rush those fine dining experiences anyway). The newest additions are Ronto Roasters, the Milk Stand, and Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Mobile ordering isn’t limited to the four theme parks; you can take advantage of the service at select Moderate and Deluxe hotel fast, casual locations and Value hotel food courts too. Its convenience may rival room service!

Payment Options
As a mobile service, you can’t use cash to pay for your food order when using the My Disney Experience app. You’ll pay with the debit or credit card linked to your Disney account. If you’re on one of the Disney Dining Plans, you can utilize snack and quick-service credits.

How To Order
Now you know the basics, how do you actually place a Mobile Order after opening and logging onto your My Disney Experience account via the app?

On the homepage, click the plus sign in a circle, located at the bottom of the screen.

A series of options will pop up, including “Order Food.” After selecting that option, the list of participating restaurants will appear. Select the restaurant from whose menu you’d like to order.

After the restaurant-specific page opens, hit “Order Food” to view the various food options offered at that location including drinks, entrees, kids’ meals, desserts and even allergy-friendly offerings. Click on the option icons to see details. In the example below, we’re checking out the Combo Platters at Columbia Harbour House - what, we’re hungry! After selecting a specific menu item, you’ll have the opportunity to customize - this is your chance to request no tomatoes or extra mayo - as well as add sides. You’ll also have the chance to “Enhance Your Meal!” with add-ons like slushy lemonade, modify your order by including items for your travel partners, and to review your order summary. When your order is complete, you’ll be led to the payment page.

Eat & Enjoy
When you’re near the restaurant you’ve selected, be sure to hit the “I’m Here” button. The restaurant won’t begin preparing your order until you notify them that you’re ready to eat. This is a major bonus of Mobile Ordering because after you’ve completed your order, you might enjoy a spontaneous parade viewing or decide to experience your favorite attraction because you notice a short standby line. If kitchen staff started your order immediately, your food would be cold and sad rather than piping hot and fresh. When you arrive at the restaurant, you’ll pick up your food at the designated Mobile Order counter. Now, you’re ready to enjoy! How easy was that?
