It’s a new year, a new decade. In 2020, why not consider visiting somewhere new for vacation? For the Disney vacation enthusiasts out there, there’s more to Disney in the United States than Walt Disney World and Disneyland. How about a stop at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort? Located only two hours southeast of Walt Disney World and on Florida’s scenic Atlantic Coast, Disney’s Vero Beach Resort offers an elegant, laid-back experience perfect for loungers, nature lovers and active vacationers. Katie Young, Beyond Imagination Vacations travel planner, shares with us five reasons why you should consider visiting Disney’s Vero Beach Resort this year!
Near the charming community of Vero Beach, Disney’s Vero Beach Resort is a wonderful place to unwind after a frenetic Walt Disney World vacation. After walking 10+ miles every day in the theme parks and setting an alarm to wake up earlier than you do at home, what could be better than relaxing on the beach with no agenda for the day? But you don’t have to add a stop at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort after a Walt DIsney World trip. The property and location are so amazing, that it stands on its own! And there’s more than lounging. The resort offers plenty of activities to keep guests of all ages active.
The Beach
Disney’s Vero Beach Resort is located right on the beach; the sand and water are practically right outside of your hotel room doorstep. With miles of unspoiled beaches, it’s the perfect spot to take long, leisurely walks morning or evening. If you’re a light packer, Seabreeze Cabana Company at the hotel rents beach chairs and umbrellas. For those who want to do more than sit and be captivated by the ocean, you can also rent wave runners, boogie boards, kayaks and other water sports gear. Take it a step further by enrolling in surf school at Eb & Flo's Rentals on site. After a half-day lesson with a surf pro, you’ll be hanging ten before you know it!
Fun on Land
Need a break from the water? You can stay active playing basketball, volleyball, bocce ball, bingo, archery, participating in scavenger hunts and so much more. There’s also a tennis court where you can play a non-competitive game or where you can arrange for a lesson to sharpen your skills while on vacation. You can also rent bicycles, board games and ping pong equipment at Eb & Flo’s Rentals. This is also where you’ll pick up clubs to play a round of miniature golf at the pirate-themed 9-hole course. For the serious golfer, the Vero Beach area is home to a number of challenging, scenic courses not too far from the Disney resort.
Spa Time
When you’re done relaxing on the beach, it’s time for more relaxation at The Spa at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort. The Spa features a luxurious collection of massages, facials and beauty treatments delivered by professional, knowledgable staff and using eco-friendly products. The staff can customize treatments to meet your body’s unique needs. Specific services include hot stone massages, coconut hydrating facials, sun relief wraps, and manicures and pedicures. Not just for adults, the spa also caterers to young guests ages four to 12.
Nature Abounds
Walt Disney, the man, is well-known for his legacy in the entertainment and theme park industries. Many people don’t know that he was also an avid conservationist. What’s the link between Disney’s passion for the environment and Disney’s Vero Beach Resort? The resort shares space with the nesting grounds of the Loggerhead Sea Turtle whose main nesting area in the northern hemisphere is the Florida Coast. Disney’s Vero Beach Resort was specifically designed to create minimal impact on the turtles’ nesting patterns. “Each year, moonlight acts as a beacon to guide the hatchlings safely to the ocean, so the resort’s east-facing windows are tinted to diminish the impact of interior lighting, and no exterior lights face the ocean.” Pretty remarkable. Nature lovers will want to visit during nesting season which runs from March through October. In June and July, the peak of the season, Disney’s Vero Beach Resort offers guided sea turtle walks at night led by specialists. 100% of the registration fee of $35+ tax per person is directed toward Disney sea turtle monitoring, public education and scientific study at Disney's Vero Beach Resort.
Delectable Dining
As a Disney resort, the food at Vero Beach Resort is top-notch - from grab and go items at Wind & Waves Market to elegant seafood dinners at Wind & Waves Grill. The focus is on fresh Florida seafood and local produce. Guest favorites include Key West shrimp and coconut grits served with pineapple relish, grilled salmon with brandy-pepper sauce, and mahi-mahi served Oscar style with crab hollandaise and roasted garlic mashed potatoes. And because it’s Disney, you know there’s a character breakfast to be found on property. Yes, you read that correctly! You won’t be at Walt Disney World, but you can still dine with characters! Goofy’s Beachside Character Breakfast at Seagrape takes place every Saturday morning from 7:30 to 11:00. Not only will young guests, and those young at heart, love meeting beloved Disney characters, but the experience includes a series of fun activities planned just for them. And on select Monday nights from March to September and during the holidays, Seagrape is host to a swashbuckling, pirate-themed dinner.
In addition to the restaurants, there are two lounges on property: Wind & Waves Bar is a poolside retreat offering ice-cold adult beverages from mid-day to the evening, while The Green Cabin Room is a Spanish galleon-inspired lounge open from 4 pm to 11 pm. It’s the perfect spot to visit before or after dinner for light bites and cocktails with a gorgeous view. The Green Cabin Room often has activities for adults. While there, Katie and her husband enjoyed bingo, karaoke and even won frisbees on trivia night!
